Since the restaurant's inception, Aleitha and Ro, the restaurant's founders, have been building the character and persona of Ella, a confident, charming embodiment of sultry lady power and fun Jamaican spirit. Our mascot is designed to capture this spirit while bringing an iconic and distinct character to life.
Custom type inspired by the hand-painted road signs of the islands complement the mascot with authentic Jamaican spirit & Rastafarian stripes.
Colour is directly inspired by the white sand beaches of Jamaica and the Rastafarian colour palette synonymous with Jamaican culture.
The typography system provides a lovely contrast of classy retro chic and hand-painted charm.
A suite of secondary marks and layouts ensures the brand's personality shines bright.
The brand comes to life with classy entrance signage that welcomes every visitor who walks in the door.
Whenever we talked with Aleitha and Ro, they shared so many touchstones about their upbringing and home in Jamaica. It was a goldmine of inspiration and visual fuel. Below, you’ll find a few supporting illustrations inspired by these conversations. Jamaican road signs, Marley & the Whaler’s inspired instruments, “Red Stripe” bottles, and big ol’ barrels of rum give the brand a lovely sense of story & character.
